Kevin Tuohy designed “modern” contact lenses in 1947 with the progression from plastic sclera to plastic corneal lenses. This was innovative as the lens only covered the cornea vs. the entire eye. The drawback to these early lenses were that they were “hard” lenses and uncomfortable for the wearer. These contacts were the only type available for the next two decades, however.
Wash hands thoroughly with a non-perfumed soap before handling or inserting contact lenses. Only use solutions that have been recommended by your eyecare professional. Never use saliva to clean your lenses! Clean, rinse, and air-dry your contact case each time that you remove your lenses.
